Work Package 1

Research and development of methods and algorithms for description, storage, mapping and identification of implicit features of virtual objects.


Task 1.1: Research and analysis of existing approaches for describing and representing features of virtual objects.

  • Activity 1.1.1: Existing technologies for assigning features to virtual objects - review of the existing technologies in use for creation of virtual objects and assigning features to them.
  • Activity 1.1.2: Analysis of advantages, disadvantages and limitations by the transfer of geometrical data - analysis of the advantages, disadvantages and limitations of the process for data transfer between applications for geometric model creation and the virtual world.
  • Activity 1.1.3: Research of loss of geometrical data during the transfer to the virtual environment - research of the processes causing data loss during the transfer of geometric models to the virtual environment. Their influence on the applicability of the virtual environment for different applications will be analyzed and assessed.

Deliverables:

Task 1.2: Създаване на класификация на имплицитните свойства на виртуални обекти.

  • Activity 1.2.1: Identification and definition of object classes with common implicit features - identification and description of classes in which virtual objects with common implicit features can be grouped.

Deliverables:

- Scheme of the classification

Task 1.3: Development and research of methods and algorithms for description, storage, identification and modification of implicit features of virtual objects.

  • Activity 1.3.1: Creation of a data structure for the description of implicit features - Creation of an appropriate hierarchical data structure for the description and storage of the features.
  • Activity 1.3.2: Development of methods and algorithms for identification and modification - development methods and algorithms for identification and modification of elements in the data structure.

Deliverables:

- Description of the hierarchical structure for feature storage

- Description of methods and algorithms for identification and modification of elements of the data structure

 


Task 1.4: Development and research of methods and algorithms for mapping the data structure describing the implicit features to the data structure representing the virtual world.

  • Activity 1.4.1: Research of schemes for mapping features to virtual objects and experimentation - research of existing schemes for mapping features to virtual objects and conducting of experiments to assess their potentials and applicability related to the project’s goal.
  • Activity 1.4.2: Creation of system of rules for mapping implicit features to objects - creation of a system of rules for mapping of implicit features to objects from the virtual world in the form of the so called feature space.
  • Activity 1.4.3: Development of methods and algorithms for mapping - development of methods and algorithms for deciding the correspondence for mapping the elements of the two data structures.
Deliverables:

- Report for the conducted researches and experiments

- Description of the rules for mapping of implicit features

- Description of methods and algorithms for mapping the elements of the data structure describing the implicit features and the data structure for representing the objects in the virtual world
